Chimelong Zoological Park 长隆香江野生动物世界 – Guangzhou, China

Do you like to go to zoo? How many times have you visited zoo in your country or city? Do you like being among wild and tame animals, watching their funny behaviors even unexpected ones? I personally have visited Safari zoo in Puncak, Indonesia for several times. However, the zoo that gives me deepest impression is the one in Guangzhou, called Chimelong Zoological park.
In Taman Safari, you could watch wild animals in an open space but you must sit inside your private cars and are not allowed to open your window for your safety. However, in Chimelong, you could freely travel around the park on foot with all wild animals in an open natural setting without worrying about being attacked by them because there are thin wires containing high electricity that surround their dwelling. This makes the wild beasts do not jump toward the visitors.
Situated in Panyu district, almost an hour journey from the heart of Guangzhou city, Xiangjiang Safari Park enjoys a reputation as the largest zoological park in China mainland even in Asia, and is China's leading zoo. As one of the most interesting tourist places in Guangzhou, the zoo gains reputation as 5A class Tourism Attraction level, which is the highest level a zoo could obtain.
Occupying an area of 130 hectares, the zoo in its natural setting is a home to over 20.000 animals of 300 species from different parts of the world including Giant Pandas, Polar Bears and Koalas. Aiming at protecting natural resources and wildlife, the zoo combines fauna breed and protection, research and science education together. Since its first opening in 1997, the park has received 100.000 tourists. The park is the only zoo in China that displays Koalas and the only zoo in the world that has twin koalas. Six koalas from Australia were given to the zoo in April 2006. The zoo also takes care of twin koalas, which is a very rare occurrence since the last set was born more than 50 years ago. Besides Koalas, the zoo also keeps over 100 white tigers and 10 pandas in total.

The Panda says, “Why are you looking at me? I’m eating you know”. The pandas are very lazy. They do not like to move fast. They prefer sleeping and eating to exercising. No wonder they are very fat…hehe

There are two ways to explore the zoo, “Safari on foot” where you could walk around a modern zoo, and “Safari on wheels” where guests sit inside a vehicle and go around the park with that car. You could travel through an impressive open plains consisting of Asian plains, Predator island, and Africa Savanna. It is the only park I have ever seen that allows wild animals to live in a natural park setting. Immerse yourself with nature, freshness and outdoor living. The park is user friendly since it has clear signage in Chinese and English and has restaurants that provide both Western and Chinese foods.
Visiting the zoo will be an unforgettable moment in your lives since it allows you to see the wild animals directly without any iron barriers. So if you want to be a step closer with them, this zoo is a place you must not miss.
